Emergencies happen – How to be prepared

Posted August 19, 2015

Let’s face it – emergencies happen. While we don’t like to think about it happening to us or the people we love, there is no surefire way to prevent accidents or emergencies on the road. You can’t control other drivers or road conditions, but you can control your own vehicle, and you can make an emergency plan so you’re prepared if an emergency does happen.

Before you hit the road, do a quick visual inspection of your vehicle. Make sure your headlights and taillights are working, your windshield wipers have enough fluid, and there are no warning lights on your dashboard. If you notice anything wrong, bring your vehicle into our shop as soon as possible. Don’t let small issues spiral into big problems and expensive repairs by ignoring a warning sign.

When you’re driving, use caution. Follow speed limits, be courteous to other drivers, and pay attention to road conditions. Safe driving starts with you, so make sure you’re setting the right example for other drivers (especially teens learning to drive). As you travel, listen for changes in your vehicle. If you notice performance issues, have your vehicle inspected to catch problems early before they cause issues on the road.

If you find yourself in an emergency, whether it’s a car breakdown or an accident, being prepared with an emergency kit can mean the difference between being stressed and stranded and a speedy repair. Stock an emergency kit with food, batteries, cash, and tools, and have the phone number for a reliable shop: (248) 668-1200. Our technicians will help you arrange a tow to our shop and help you get home safely.

There’s no way to prevent all emergencies, but being prepared and keeping up with preventative maintenance will help your family stay safe on the roads in Walled Lake! To schedule your next appointment, call us at (248) 668-1200.
