Bring Bikes for Kids this School Year!

Posted August 28, 2015

Calling all metro Detroiters! We’re looking for your bikes. Big and small, old and new. Stop by Kenny’s Lakes Area Auto Experts to contribute your bicycles to our Bike Drive!

We’re holding a bike drive, along with The Shirt Box, and collecting your donations to benefit Back Alley Bikes in Detroit. Make sure students in need have bicycles in their hands to start this school year!

Back Alley Bikes is a local organization, bike shop, repair and resource center based in Detroit. They focus on cycling education and community access for youth. The bicycles collected in this bike drive will go towards the Earn a Bike program for youth and children ages 10 to 17. These kids gain access to all BAB’s resources and learn how to fix the bike. When they graduate the program, they keep the bicycle!

Kenny's Lakes Area Auto Experts is hosting a bike drive to support Back Alley Bikes in Detroit through September 12.

I know that having a bike can make the difference between going to school or not, so let’s get bikes to those who need them most!

We accept bikes of all sizes and conditions, along with bike helmets. All bikes that are in good condition and safe for the kids will be donated right away for the beginning of the school year. Those that need repairs will first be fixed and refurbished and donated in the following months.

Take this opportunity to look through your garages and basements and finally clear out those bicycles that have been gathering dust for years.

The bike drive is open now through September 12. Stop by our auto repair shop in Walled Lakes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to drop off your bicycles. I’ll be personally gathering all of the bikes from both locations, Kenny’s Lakes Area Auto Experts and The Shirt Box in Farmington Hills, to deliver them to Back Alley Bikes after the drive on September 12th.

We’re honored to partner with The Shirt Box and Southwest Rides to host this bike drive and support Back Alley Bikes. To learn more about how to donate or other ways to get involved, call us at (248) 668-1200.
